On this Valentine’s Day Ash Wednesday, the words spoken along with the imposition of ashes - remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return - sound much like God saying, remember that I love you, that I have claimed you and that you are mine. These are words of hope to remind us that no matter where we are, we are God’s and we are loved.
So as our Lenten journey begins, my prayer is that this reminder of God’s love sustains us and that this season fills us with longing and intention to return to the Lord, our God, who is gracious and merciful.
