On the heels of National Ice Cream day comes National Hot Dog Day. What could be a better combination than a hot dog and some ice cream?! Or is that simply a southern thing?
Which makes me think of our favorite place in NC - Yum Yum. For a LONG time Yum Yum has been the staple of our hometown for hot dogs and ice cream. Homemade ice cream. Chased with a Cheerwine soda - in a bottle. That comprises the Yum Yum menu - hot dogs (with ketchup, mustard, chili, slaw and onions as the only toppings), ice cream, chips and sodas. Cash only!
Tucked on a corner surrounded by the University of North Carolina - Greensboro campus, this little place stays busy. And consistent. The taste seemed the same the last time we were there as it did when I was a little girl. Yum Yum!!
Oh, we miss Yum Yum. But we can - and have - learned there are other places just as yummy. We celebrated today by getting a hot dog - and throughly enjoyed it. Hats off to our local favorite. Yum! :-)
