Day #2268

March 17, 2020

First - Happy St. Patrick’s Day. My dad always said we were part Irish (who knows!), so I feel a need to wear green, maybe enjoy a green-iced cupcake, and share this poem as it was posted on FaceBook.

Now, Tuesday’s Thoughts on Scripture comes from Ephesians 5:8: Once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light. (NRSV)

A friend used to tell me that often when she left the house, her father would say: no matter where you are or who you are with, remember you are a Smith (the Smith name is used here only as an example). In other words, keep our name proud, caring, respectable, etc. Folks will be watching you, and what you do and how you act reflects on who our family is known to be. A reputation is difficult to restore if it has been damaged.

I thought of that advice as I read this part of the 8th verse from Ephesians chapter 5 - Live as children of light. Live as children of hope. Live as children of promise. Live as children without fear of what might be coming or what will happen to us when this life is over. Live as children who know whose we are and who we are. Easy to do? Not always (my friend sometimes struggled with her father's advice, too - hehe). Yet, this reminder to live as children of light is important for us to remember and reflect upon, especially when there is fear and chaos around us.

Thanks be to God, we are light for the world. And with God’s help, God’s light shines through us as hope for a hurting world.

Blessings. And prayers.
